Ludington is located on the west-central coast of Lake Michigan, near Big Sauble Point. It is unique because it is one of the few cities on Lake Michigan that provides car ferry service to the state of Wisconsin. Also, due to Ludington’s location on the shoreline of Lake Michigan, and its’ nearby accessibility to Big Sauble Point and the Pere Marquette River, it consistently remains one of the most popular tourist spots in the state. Ludington State Park is located here and is often called “Queen of Michigan’s Parks.” It features awe-inspiring sand dunes and virgin forests, miles of sandy beach, 14 miles of hiking and biking trails and three campgrounds. Fishing charters are available in Ludington, as well as canoe and kayak rentals, watercraft and boat rentals – even dune buggy rides. There are over 50 miles of trails available for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, and the Lake Michigan Recreation Area, Nordhouse Dunes and the Manistee National Forest are all just minutes away. Ludington also has a number of other attractions that are unique to this area. One is a walking tour of the town to view the many murals that depict the history, flora and fauna of the area. Other points of interest include the Big Sable Point Lighthouse and Historic White Pine Village, which is a collection of 21 buildings that depict small-town life in Michigan during the late 1800s and beyond.
